Szeged, Hungary is upgrading its Tisza River port, primarily to support logistics for the BYDfactory. Specific tasks include dredging the riverbed to accommodate larger vessels, upgrading railway connections, and clearing underwatershipwrecks and obstacles. Some of BYD's production equipment was previously transported by water fromthe Port of Baja, and this upgrade aims to make this route more reliable. At the start of theproject, restricted entry signs caused local residents to worry that public areas would be closed off. Following negotiations, the restricted areawas reduced, allowing anglers and walkers to continue accessing the Boszorkány Island area. Currently in thepreparatory phase, large-scale construction is expected to launch this autumn.
